Guy behind the counter (and his friend pacing in the store) charged me $3.89 for a $2.99 chocolate bar. I told him, "it costs $2.99 and pointed to the price tag" and in broken English he told me "no, 10% more because of mardi gras". I said, "what are you talking about! The price says $2.99 and that's what i expect to be charged." He said, "no, american chocolate bar and 10% more." I told him to stop lying and to try his hardest to be ethical, and even if it was 10% more, that would make it $3.30 not $3.89. We argued for a bit (I mean, just outrageous), and he lowered the price to $3.30. This is what you can expect here. Yes, this is now happening in Australia. You can see where this behaviour is coming from as the owner responds to our comments by being flippant. Reporting this store to fair trading. They overcharge and hope you don't notice.

The guys behind the counter will try to charge more for products that are clearly marked. Be very careful here and watch them carefully what they charge. Don't be shy about calling the police if they refuse to charge you the correct price that is marked on the labels.

Answer to the owner's question: The pakistani worker behind the counter, and his pakistani friend in the store pacing, charged me over $6.00 for a snickers bar. It was on Mardi Gras this year. I told them the price is clearly marked and that is way too much money. They told me in a broken accent that they charge 10% more on Mardi Gras. I said even at 10% more (which is ridiculous but I played along), the price would not be that high. They lowered the price a bit but it was still over-priced and I was furious that this corruption was happening. The manager, as you can see, makes no apologies for their behaviour and thinks I'm the one making up the story (for what reason). How often do they do this?
